Finding and installing

I searched “Morning Manna” and found something else

There are several things called Morning Manna — devotional books, podcasts, church programmes and at least one other app. Ours is the alarm clock. On Google Play search for Morning Manna Bible Alarm, or use the link on our home page. The app's icon is the amber vessel you see at the top of this page. For how the app works, in plain words, see How a Bible alarm clock works.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. Morning Manna launches on Android first; an iPhone version is planned. If you'd like to hear when it's ready, email us and we'll let you know — once, when it exists.

Alarms

My alarm didn't ring, or rang silently

Almost always this is the phone, not the app. Android's battery saving can stop apps from waking the phone. Check three things in your phone's Settings. First, Battery → find Morning Manna → set it to Unrestricted (Samsung calls this “Never sleeping apps”). Second, Apps → Morning Manna → Permissions → make sure Alarms & reminders and Notifications are allowed, and that the app can appear on top of other apps. Third, check that Do Not Disturb allows alarms. The app's “Wake-up safeguards” page walks you through these on your own phone.

What plays if today's chapter hasn't downloaded?

The alarm never goes silent. If the day's chapter isn't on your phone (no connection overnight, say), the app plays a chapter you already have. If there isn't one yet, it plays a chapter built into the app. The Home screen tells you the night before what tomorrow's alarm will play.

What plays on the weekend?

No new chapter comes out on Saturday or Sunday. A weekend alarm plays one of your recent chapters, chosen for the day. Saturday's Home card looks back at the week. Sunday's rests and shows the week ahead.

The “Today's verse” widget

How do I add the Today's verse widget?

The widget puts a verse from the morning's chapter on your home screen, and tapping it opens that chapter. On most phones the easiest way is from the app: open Profile → Home screen → Today's verse widget, and your phone shows an Add sheet — tap Add and it's placed. (After your first chapter, a one-time card on the Home screen offers the same thing.)

You can also add it the usual way: touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen → Widgets → Morning Manna → drag Today's verse onto the screen. You can resize it once it's placed; the verse re-fits.

Can I put the widget on my lock screen?

Only on phones whose lock screen accepts widgets from other apps. Many Android phones — Samsung's current models among them — allow only their own widgets there, so on those phones the verse lives on the home screen.

The verse hasn't changed

That's usually by design. The widget's day starts at 3 am, not midnight, so late at night it still shows the chapter you woke to. Through the day it takes turns every two hours among the few verses chosen for that chapter — and when a chapter has only one, that verse stays all day. On the free plan the widget draws from your Weekly Manna all week. Saturday rotates through the whole week's verses, and Sunday shows one verse for rest all day.

Your phone decides exactly when to redraw widgets, so a change can take a little while to appear. If the widget still shows yesterday's chapter after 3 am, or shows a verse from Lamentations under the caption “Morning Manna” (what it shows before it has heard from the app), open the app once while you're online; it refreshes the widget every time it checks for new chapters.

Free and Premium

What do I get for free?

A new chapter every Monday (your Weekly Manna), which your alarm plays all week. Also alarms, read-along text, the journal, your streak and Journey, optional backup, and joining groups. None of it ends. Premium adds your Daily Manna (a new chapter every weekday), the widget following each day's chapter, favourites, going back for a missed morning, and leading a group.

How does the free trial work?

The free plan asks for nothing, no card and no account, and never ends. The seven-day free trial belongs to Premium. When you choose a monthly or yearly plan, Google Play offers the trial to new subscribers, shows you the end date and price before you confirm, and charges only if you haven't cancelled by then. Cancel in your Play subscriptions at any time. You keep every chapter you have and go back to the free plan.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us. On Android open the Google Play app → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Morning Manna. You keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for. Refunds are also handled by Google Play under its refund policy.

I subscribed but the app still says Free

Open the app while online and give it a moment; it checks your subscription on launch. If it still shows Free, open the Premium screen and look for Restore purchases. If that doesn't work, email us with the store order number (from your Google Play receipt email) and we'll sort it out.

Do trial chapters disappear when the trial ends?

No. Chapters delivered to you while you had Premium stay in your library. What changes is that new weekday chapters stop arriving; you continue to receive your Weekly Manna each Monday.

Groups

How do I join a group?

Ask the leader for the group's invite code, then in the app open the Groups card on Home → Join and enter it. You'll choose a display name that other members see. Joining is free.

Can the leader see whether I woke up?

No. The app never shows who listened, only how many, and small counts aren't shown at all. That's on purpose, and it's the same for leaders and members.

Our church or group wants Premium for everyone. How does that work?

Group seats. One payment covers every member of a group for a year, from $3 a person a month, and members never enter a card. The leader starts the group in the app. Anyone can sponsor the seats on our Churches & groups page using the group's invite code. It's for families and small groups as much as churches. The minimum is five seats.

I'm in a sponsored group but the app still says Free

Open the app while online and give it a moment; it checks the group's sponsorship when it syncs. If the group has more members than seats, the newest members wait for a seat to be added. If it still shows Free, email us with the group's name and we'll look.

How do I leave a group, or report something?

Open the group and use Leave in its menu; leaving also stops you seeing that leader's notes. To report a note, use Report on the note itself — a copy of it comes to us so a person can review it even after the note expires.

Backup and your data

Where are my journal, streak and favourites stored?

On your phone. Your journal and favourites never leave it. Your streak, Journey and Library — the record of which mornings you gathered and which chapters — also stay on the phone unless you turn on backup, which is off by default.

How does backup work?

Profile → Account. You create an account with an email address and a password, and confirm the address from the email we send. From then on, your listening history (the days you woke to a chapter, which chapters, and your best streak) is kept in a cloud copy tied to that account. Sign in on a new phone and it comes back, and your Library rebuilds from it. Backup is free on every plan. We use the email only to sign you in and for the confirmation and password-reset messages, never for marketing. (Our giving newsletter is a separate sign-up, in the app under Profile → Charitable giving.) Full details in the Privacy Policy.

The confirmation or password-reset email hasn't arrived

Check your spam or junk folder — these messages sometimes land there. The sender is a Firebase address on our behalf. If it's still missing after a few minutes, request it again from the app; if that fails, email us and we'll help.

How do I delete my data?

It is in one place in the app: Profile → Your data. Reset Progress erases your listening history on the phone and, if you have an account, its cloud copy too. Delete account removes your email, your sign-in and every cloud copy, and leaves the phone's own progress alone. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes everything on the phone. If you belonged to a group and want the group data removed, email us. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
